Past Events & Performances

Audience heard new and old works written by Shawntai at the October 27th edition Rush Hour Reads series by Extra Mile Playwrights Theatre in partnership with Live6Alliance. This reading will feature short works and excerpts around the theme “Seasons Change” and will center stories of love and shifts. Per usual, many of those stories will center Black women-loving-women.

Check out page 14 of the newly released Metro Times 2023 Fiction issue for a new work by Shawntai! “When We Were Close” is a short play about a lesbian at a straight bar who longs for the platonic friendships of her past.

Shawntai is the first ever playwright to be invited to submit to the fiction issue!! (DJ, cue celebratory horns)

This issue is full of amazing writers from the Metro Detroit area! Find it at various stores and bars scattered throughout the city!
